Newstead (2015) > Design
This two story, three bedroom home was designed in response to the site topography which slopes to the north at roughly 12 degrees. The house is designed to step down the hill, providing a one story facade to the street and a two story northern façade.
Being built by the owner, there was a strong aesthetic desire for cube forms and reduced noise transfer from the upper floor to the lower for. The design brief also called for maximised simplicity and cost effective construction. These requirements informed the use of a masonry base with blockwork walls, insulated suspended concrete slab and timber framed upper construction.
