The My Build Story
How it all began.
Stuart Griffiths |
After leaving school, Stu began his building apprenticeship with his father. Stu was always going to walk in his father’s footsteps, as an early passion for building was very clear. Both Stu and Murray grew up on their father’s many building sites, including a multiple unit development in their own back yard.
Not long after, he wanted to go out on his own and build his own team. Stu employed a core team of six men with several of them completing apprenticeships and continuing on to merge with the My Build Collective Team. Over the years, Stu had the privilege of holding many positions within industry bodies, including an active committee member of the Northern Tas Master Building Association (NTMBA) and going on to serve as President for two years.
Stu operated his business for 35 years and grew a strong reputation for craftsmen built homes. He has held onto the old (and better) practices, taught by his father, who was a master craftsman. He now passes on these skills and wealth of knowledge to the new team.
Murray Griffiths |
Although Murray grew up with the same building influences from his father, he was a little slower picking up the passion. He was more interested in breeding budgies, looking after his chickens and never wanted to miss the Saturday cartoons on TV.
However, after grade ten Murray found himself in a one year pre-vocational course studying Carpentry and Joinery. From there he gained an apprenticeship in the well-known joinery company, Hume and Kerrison. It was here he finally discovered a love for the joinery trade and went on to run his own joinery firm.
Murray eventually found himself within a design and construct company as a Project Manager, which is when he found his flair for designing custom built homes. Many of the homes Murray designed and project managed went on to win Tasmanian Awards and then to be recognised nationally.
So when did My Build Collective begin? |
Stu was not enjoying the challenges of the technological world, particularly computers. He wanted to concentrate on running a building site. Murray had been struggling with having enough time to run a company, project manage and design.
Directors Stuart and Murray Griffiths often talked about joining forces after long careers within the building industry. My Build Collective came to fruition in 2020, a strong design and construct company made up of 11 handpicked staff and still growing.
