This renovation helps connect the two previously built forms in a more cohesive fashion.

The original home built in the 1980’s has been previously extended with a double story modern build, this was a juxtaposition with the interior. The large kitchen of solid timber construction and traditional corner pantry was clunky to work in and did not have a lot of bench space considering the size.

The general layout of the space worked well for the person using the space but they needed a few tweaks. The island bench (with seating), kitchen sink and cooking locations worked well. It was identified that a larger more functional pantry, a freestanding cooker and good lighting were high on the priority list.

We recognised there was some under-utilised space in the neighbouring lounge where we could push the wall and generate that additional floor area to the kitchen. This provided the ability to build in a good sized pantry with bench space and providing more storage in the main kitchen. The new modern finishes tie in nicely with the more recent extension. Caesar Stone bench tops with a combination of finishes including Laminex AbsoluteMatte and Messemate Timber to the doors and panels provide some great light reflection and soft finishes maintaining a warmth to the space.

Access to the outdoor entertaining from the kitchen was also an option to explore. The main access to the home is via an outdoor undercover area, this was an uninspiring space and needed a facelift. The area is used regularly throughout summer with direct access to the pool and kitchen. The resolution for this space was to dress-up the existing structure and provide some softening features such as timber battening and deeper colours to conceal the galvanised steel framing.

New doors into the home provided increased security, along with a lift up window to the kitchen providing wonderful access and integration to the outdoor space. Careful consideration has been given to artificial lighting and maintaining natural light to these renovated spaces.

Upon completion, the clients were wonderfully surprised at such a difference it has made to their internal and external views of their home.
