Westella Cellar Door.

Westella Cellar Door was a rather unique small commercial project for the My Build Team and boasts some quirky features.

The building exterior is clad with traditional vertical green hardwood shiplap. The innovation of using stainless-steel screw fixings enables the boards to be individually  tightened once the moisture has been eliminated, ensuring longevity of the product. The weathering effect adds to the ambiance of being located inside of a vineyard and will eventually transform to a brilliant silver patina.

A focal point of the exterior are the large steel-framed sliding doors sourced from a local steel manufacturer, and feature bespoke galvanised handles with componentry from a South Australian supplier.

Internally, the bathrooms and kitchen have been lined with plaster. The remaining interior is lined in a kiln-dried feature grade hardwood lining board, sourced from a  local Tasmanian Saw Mill. This feature was a deliberate selection to incorporate the gum vein and red staining to not only to create a warm and eclectic aesthetic, but to also imitate the inside of a wine barrel as a nod to the intended use of the building.

The boards have been end-matched at each external and internal junction point to give a seamless finish showcasing the attention to detail in this build. The finish is so seamless in fact that when standing on the mezzanine level a whisper at ceiling level will literally carry down the boards and into the open space to be heard on the first level.

Ampilite has been installed on both sides of the building over a solid Tasmanian Oak frame with horizontal battens and perfectly illuminates the workshop and mezzanine areas. Within these areas we formed a functional solid concrete plinth to enable wash-down of wine making equipment. With burnished and oiled concrete floors throughout providing the ‘industrial’ feel whilst offering long lasting easy cleaning  surfaces.
